There'd better be.
After all, I just dropped 900 bucks on a new pair of boots and blades for the next Sasha Cohen - aka my 9-year-old daughter and 2010 Olympic champion, Shelby.
So, since this week's installment of our new feature is following the ice skating theme, here's a chance for all you aspiring Michelle Kwans to get in the game.
And don't worry, folks. The financial investment in the beginning won't be nearly as steep for you as it is for me.
Here are a few simple, inexpensive ways to invest in your child's ice skating future (Trust me, it's well worth the dime.):
For starters, the Figure Skating Club of Augusta will hold a camp later this month featuring two of the most recognizable names in the skating world. Canadian skating legend Barbara Wagner - who won an Olympic gold medal in pairs with Robert Paul at the 1960 Games in Squaw Valley, Calif. - and renowned choreographer Ricky Harris will be featured instructors at the camp, to be heldJune 23-27 at the Augusta Ice Sports Center.
Wagner was inducted in the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame and has been teaching figure skaters for more than 30 years. Harris is a former professional skater and dancer who has worked with such top skaters as 1988 Olympic gold medalist Brian Boitano.
The Augusta camp is open to all ages and skill levels, with a basic skills camp designed for the beginning skater.
The Ice Sports Center is also accepting registrations for its learn-to-skate programs, which run continuously year-round.
The figure skating school is led by coaches Renee Lipscomb and Andrew Austin, who won the U.S. adult national ice dancing championship in 2001.
Call the Augusta Ice Sports Center at (706) 863-0061 for more information.
ON TO SECTIONALS: The Newman Tennis Center BASS 4.0 men's team won the Georgia State championship on Memorial Day weekend.
They beat 24 other teams in their division by scores of 4-1, 5-0, 2-3, 5-0, 5-0 and 3-2 in the semifinal and 4-1 in the final.
The team advances to the sectional tournament July 24-27 in Lexington, S.C, and will compete against teams from Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina.
Team members are Ronnie Bass, Doug Boessneck, Kelly Buchanan, Mike Chow, Steve Clayton, Gerald Faulk, Mark Hancock, Guy Harrison, Paul Hamilton, Chad Jordan, Lou Landon, Tony Quick, Ricky Stokes and David Snyder.
DIAMOND MINE: USA Baseball and the Georgia Dugout Club will sponsor a baseball showcase at Augusta State University at 10 a.m. Monday.
The showcase is for high school sophomores, juniors and seniorsand is one of 10 to be held around Georgia this month.
The top 80 players will be invited to represent Georgia in a tournament to be held July 13-15 at Georgia Southern University.
