Robby Watson polled the Bartram Trail Golf Club members before accepting the deal.

After receiving positive feedback, Watson, the course's head pro and general manager, agreed with the Hooters Tour on a one-year arrangement to hold the Kandy Waters Memorial Classic, Sept. 15-21.

"I think it'll be great for the club," Watson said. "And I think it'll be great for the golfers as well."

The ninth annual Kandy Waters Memorial Classic moves to its fourth location since debuting in 2000 at North Augusta's River Golf Club. The event remained there for two more years before moving in 2003 for a two-year stint to Monticello Golf Club in McCormick, S.C. In 2005, title sponsor L.D. Waters relinquished his role to Savannah Lakes Resort.

The Kandy Waters Memorial Classic moved to Goshen Planta-tion Golf Club in 2006. It marked the first time the event had been held in Augusta.

After the 2007 Kandy Waters Memorial Classic, the event announced a move to Jones Creek Golf Club in Evans. But brothers Daniel and Casey Cope, who signed an agreement last year to purchase the club for $5.7 million, failed to close the deal by Jan. 15. The Copes later filed for bankruptcy.

Bartram Trail gained the professional golf tournament, which offers a $200,000 purse.

"I've had my eye on Bartram Trail for a couple of years now,' Waters said in a release. "I think the players will enjoy the course and I'm looking forward to another great event in memory of my late wife Kandy."

Watson said his 6,700-yard Columbia County course is almost ready for the Hooters Tour. One of the few chores the maintenance staff will have is to grow the rough from its current height of 2 inches to 3/4-inch.

The Kandy Waters Memorial Classic will be the second Hooters Tour event this year in the Augusta area. Aiken's Kevin Kisner won April's Savannah Lakes Resort Classic.
