This month, The Augusta Chronicle will begin publishing a list of area companies that have unanswered or unresolved complaints through the Better Business Bureau of Central Georgia and the CSRA Inc.
The BBB is an affiliate of the national dispute resolution organization that operates in a 41-county area between Augusta and Macon.
The information, which The Chronicle will publish on the first Sunday of each month, is already available online from the BBB at http://centralgeorgia.bbb.org by clicking on "For Consumers."
The organization focuses on consumer-to-business and business-to-business transactions that involve the advertisement or sale of products and services.
The BBB uses complaints to create "Reliability Reports" on companies that consumers can check before deciding to do business with a particular company.
The organization accepts complaints regardless of whether the business is a BBB member, or "Accredited Business."
"The BBB strongly encourages consumers to first attempt to resolve complaints directly with the company," said Kelvin Collins, the president of the BBB of Central Georgia and the CSRA. "However, the BBB will not reject a complaint if a consumer has not taken this step."
Mr. Collins said that, historically, 70 percent of complaints filed through the BBB are resolved through mediation or arbitration.

MAKE A COMPLAINT: Complaints about a specific company or charity should be referred directly to (800) 763-4222 or info@csra.bbb.org.
CHECK ON A COMPANY: Go to centralgeorgia.bbb.org, click on "For Consumers," then "Check Out a Business or Charity." Then type the name into the search browser.
