VIDEO: James "Kato" Taylor is in the Sonic Spotlight.

HOMETOWN: Augusta

PLAYS: His Roland keyboard

FAVORITE CONCERT ATTENDED: James Brown, Bell Auditorium, about 1970. "I got a brother (Robert Wiggins); he's dead now, but he liked James Brown too ... and he said that he had been practicing all James Brown's moves and steps and everything. He told me, he said, "K, when James Brown comes to town, I'm going to jump up on that stage with him. And he did it. And they took the spotlight off of James Brown and put it on him."

FAVORITE FOOD: McDonald's hamburgers

WHY HE BEGAN PLAYING THE KEYBOARD (AGE 26). "I had a whole band (Kato and Company) at that time, and the keyboard player quit on me, and I started missing that sound, so that made me start playing myself."

FAVORITE TV SHOW: Sanford and Son

FAVORITE PERFORMANCE: Club in Miami, early 1990s. "I worked with a lot of artists on that same show. A lot of people like Kool and the Gang came in there, and they were on the show; KC and the Sunshine Band ... played; after they played, I played."

FAVORITE MOVIE: Across 110th Street

HANDPICKED CONCERT LINEUP: Z.Z. Hill, Cheatin' in the Next Room; Barry White, Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe; Elvis Presley, Blue Suede Shoes; Frank Sinatra, Theme from New York, New York; Temptations, My Girl; Bill Withers, Ain't No Sunshine

NEXT GIG: Mr. Taylor will perform from 6-10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays at Veracruz Mexican Restaurant, 1077 Stevens Creek Road.
