TV highlights for the week

Sit back down. No one said you could go just yet.

Sure, May is almost over, and we're officially into summer rerun mode. But there are a zillion channels out there. Not everything is a repeat.

MTV launches its "Summer Kickoff Special" beginning at 8 a.m. Monday. The music channel will preview its new lineup. For the summer, many of its shows will originate from a beach house in New Jersey. Series debuts will begin to trickle in during the next few weeks.

Discovery tackles roller coasters and extreme rides in its "Thrills, Chills and Spills" programming block beginning at 8 p.m. Monday.

ABC is going to "The Hamptons" at 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 2. It's a reality-show miniseries. The two-parter (concluding on June 3) follows singles looking for love in the posh setting of the Hamptons.

MONDAY, May 27

"Baywatch Marathon" (starting at 9 a.m., TNN). The next 12 hours will have girls and guys running around in skimpy bathing suits.

"Willie Nelson & Friends: Stars & Guitars" (9 p.m., USA). Vince Vaughn hosts this all-star tribute to the country-western singer.

"Military Diaries" (10 p.m., VH1). In this new weekly reality series, men and women serving in the war against terrorism document what their daily lives are all about.

TUESDAY, May 28

"Mole II" (8 p.m., ABC). The reality show, yanked because of poor ratings last fall, is coming back for a second chance.

WEDNESDAY, May 29

"Diary" (10:30 p.m., MTV). As a new season begins, Blink 182 and Green Day are profiled through the "video diaries" they made.

THURSDAY, May 30

"Devil's Playground" (8:30 p.m., Cinemax). This documentary follows sheltered Amish teens as they discover the temptations of the mainstream world.

FRIDAY, May 31

"Kitschen" (midnight, TV Land). A new programming block recycles "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman," "Fernwood 2Night" and "The Monkees."

"World Stunt Awards" (8 p.m., ABC). The best crashes, falls and splats in television, live-action and film are honored.

SATURDAY, June 1

"Daffy's Revenge" (beginning 8 a.m., Boomerang). The 48-hour tribute highlights 76 Daffy Duck cartoons, including the rarely seen "You Ought to be in Pictures" (1940).

"June Bugs" (beginning 8 a.m., Cartoon Network). Bugs Bunny is in the spotlight of this 38-hour marathon of his most popular cartoons.

"The Queen's Jubilee Gala: Live from Buckingham Palace" (8 p.m., PBS).

Andrew Davis leads the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in a two-hour program drawing on centuries of British music, from Handel to Elgar to Walton and more.

SUNDAY, June 2

"Six Feet Under" (9 p.m., HBO). The drama wraps up its second season. Nate has a revelation about his family; Brenda does some soul searching and the funeral home may have a change in management.

"Looking for Love: Bachelorettes in Alaska" (9 p.m., Fox). Five women, who are apparently willing to do anything to find a husband, go north in their pursuit. At the end of five episodes, we'll find out who has been successful.

"The Wire" (10 p.m., HBO). This new drama focuses on a police unit fighting the drug war in Baltimore.

"Crank Yankers" (10:30 p.m., Comedy Central). "Man Show" stars Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Carolla put together this prank-phone-call series using puppets to re-enact real calls.
