The Augusta Spartans appeared primed and ready to lock up a first-round home playoff spot in the World Indoor Football League on Thursday night.
Osceola Ghostriders quarterback Brandon Sumner made sure that didn't happen.
Sumner rushed for four touchdowns, including the decisive score with 1:05 left, to give Osceola a come-from-behind 46-43 victory at James Brown Arena.
The second-place Spartans (6-6) lost at home for the first time this season, as the Ghostriders (5-6) pulled within a half game of Augusta.
Sumner scored on a 12-yard draw with 1:05 left, set up by Gerald Gales' long kickoff return, for the go-ahead points.
Osceola had stormed back from an early 21-0 deficit and took the lead with 5:50 left on Sumner's 2-yard touchdown run that put the Ghostriders up 39-36.
But Augusta's Kijana Thomas took a fourth-down Osceola kick at his own 5-yard line, raced up the middle and bounced down the left sideline for a score to make it 43-39.
The Spartans jumped out to an early 21-0 lead behind a 1-yard touchdown run from Voncellies Allen, an 11-yard touchdown pass from Mike Rathe to Anthony Young and Rathe's 1-yard sneak.
Osceola answered with a pair of long touchdown runs by Sumner, 32 and 26 yards, to pull within 21-14.
Rathe hit Marvin Stone for a 4-yard scoring toss with seven seconds left before halftime to make it 28-14.
Osceola got a third-quarter field goal, then pulled within 29-24 on Terrance Bunting's 7-yard run.
But the Spartans answered with Rathe's 21-yard strike to Stone near the end of the third quarter to go up 36-24.
Osceola drove and scored its first passing touchdown early in the fourth quarter on a short toss from Sumner to Gales to make it 36-31.
