The Southern gospel flock and anybody else who likes mellow harmonies can pack up some lawn chairs today and head to the All Day Spring Sing at White Oak United Methodist Campground in Thomson.

The event starts at 11 a.m. and features 25 groups performing in an open-air tabernacle, said the Rev. Tony Henderson, patriarch of the Hendersons, one of the featured groups. The group is president of the CSRA Southern Gospel Music Association, sponsor of the event.

The sing gives performers a chance to hear each other and get comfortable working together, said Ramona Brazell, member of the Brazells, association vice president. In some areas, performers don't want to work together, she said. "We don't want that here."

Each group, also including Kingdom Heirs, Bible Deliverance Praise Team, the Southern Songmasters and Christian Harmony, will perform about 25 minutes. A few will use taped music, but most of it will be live, she said.

Fans will have a chance to meet the singers and buy tapes and T-shirts from their favorite groups. Concessions will be available. Proceeds will be used for future sings, to rent buildings and to buy sound equipment for the nonprofit association.

White Oak is laid back, the Rev. Henderson said. "It is like stepping back 100 years in time."
