And Hollywood - not known for missing promotional opportunities - has a number of new sites dedicated to making sure their movies become blockbusters.
The site for Batman and Robin is actually five sites, which are linked together but self-contained. Each site represents a different character - Batman, Robin, Batgirl, Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy.
Visitors with Shockwave Flash will get the most out of the Batman sites. Animated tours, complete with movie stills and audio files, are taken by clicking on the dashboard of each of the five characters' vehicles.
The story of Mr. Freeze is told through authentic storyboards from the original artists. A 3-D rendering of Poison Ivy's lab is available through a quick-time movie. Clips of the Batman and Robin soundtrack are available through RealAudio.
Batman and Robin opens June 20.
One of the more confusing sites is The Lost World, based on the movie follow-up to 1993's dinosaur epic Jurassic Park.
The site is oriented around props found in the office of John Hammond, the character responsible for building the dinosaur theme park. Here are a few tips for getting around the site:
If you want to learn about the dinosaurs, go to the InGen link. For synopses of the characters, check out the filing cabinet. The bookcase has links to museums and other dinosaur-related places.
The Lost World opens Friday.
The Internet Movie Database is a searchable site that has information on thousands of movie releases.
Enter the name of a movie, and you get a plot summary, notable quotes, links to other sites related to the movie, and amateur and film critics ratings.
