After 10 years in Augusta, the Lynx will finally receive a portion of the parking and concessions revenue generated during their hockey games at James Brown Arena next season if a new lease is approved by the Augusta-Richmond County Coliseum Authority.
The new lease, which will run through the 2009-10 ECHL season, was approved Tuesday morning by the Arena Football/Hockey Committee for recommendation to the Coliseum Authority. Committee chair Keith Brown said the Coliseum Authority could agree to sign the lease as early as May 27, which is the next scheduled board meeting.
"What the committee will do is make a recommendation to the full board to accept the lease agreement we talked about with the changes," Brown said. "It still has to be approved by the board, and I'm sure there will be some discussion about the items that were changed."
Lynx co-owner and general manager Dan Troutman and director of business operations Kevin Kavanagh were on hand to present the lease to the committee. Troutman singled out four "significant changes" in the new lease that included:
l Reduced advertising fee
l A share in the parking revenue
l A revenue-based share in the concessions
l The purchase of a new Zamboni.
A new Zamboni would supplement the current, 10-year old vehicle, the only consistently working Zamboni in the area.
The revenue sharing from parking and concessions was not a part of the first two lease agreements between the Lynx and the Coliseum Authority, but Troutman told the committee that such an agreement would be beneficial to the team and James Brown Arena.
"I feel like it's a good lease for both of us," he said. "Technically, this was the fourth meeting with various representatives of the authority. So the unanimous approval of it was certainly pleasing to see."
The Lynx have been operating under an intent to lease, issued by the Coliseum Authority earlier this year. Troutman said a signed lease must be shown to the ECHL by June 14.
