A loss in the final second of Saturday's game in Columbus, Ga., left the Augusta Colts on the outside of a three-team race for two playoff spots.
The Colts (5-3) are a game behind the Columbus Lions and three games behind the Missis-sippi Mudcats in the American Indoor Football Association's South Division.
With six games left in regular- season play, head coach Bubba Diggs said his team isn't out of it just yet.
"We control our own destiny as of right now," he said. "We're not even going to think about needing help from Mississippi or Columbus. We're not out of it by any stretch of the imagination."
The Colts still have two home games left against Mississippi, and a pair of wins would keep them in the playoff hunt.
But Diggs' squad first must concentrate on wrapping up its month-long road trip with a game in Fayetteville, N.C., on Saturday.
"The guys miss playing at home. There's no place like your home turf," Diggs said. "But we know this team. We've played them before, so we know what to expect."
The Fayetteville Guard (3-4) are battling for their own playoff lives and are only a half-game out of the last playoff spot in the AIFA East. The two teams met in Fayetteville on March 30, and the Colts came away with a 47-36 win.
Quarterback Anthony Young rushed for three touchdowns in the win, while receiver Marvin Stone caught two touchdown passes.
Neither will be on the field in that capacity this time.
Stone is out with an ankle injury, while Young has moved back to receiver with the addition of quarterback Mike Rathe .
In two games, Rathe has thrown for 14 touchdowns and 502 yards.
EASY TARGETS: Part of Rathe's success has come as a result of one of the top receiving units in the AIFA.
Six different receivers have caught at least one touchdown this season, and four of them have at least 225 yards receiving.
Isaac West , who started the year as the third-string receiver, leads the team with nine touchdowns and 528 yards. Corey McKinney , a late addition to the roster, has eight touchdowns in three games.
AIFA NEWS: The AIFA will continue its expansion next season with the addition of a team in Harrisburg, Pa.
The yet-to-be-named franchise got a boost last week when the league announced New Orleans Saints wide receiver Marques Colston will be a minority owner during the inaugural season with the intent to purchase the team outright.
Colston, a Harrisburg native, was a local football and track star at Susquehanna Township High School.
