YANKEES: Alex Rodriguez , Jorge Posada and Phil Hughes are expected to travel to New York's spring-training facility in Florida today to continue their rehabilitation.

Rodriguez (strained right quadriceps) ran in the outfield before New York's game on Wednesday. He played catch, fielded grounders and took batting practice.

Rodriguez is expected to continue with a similar routine over the next few days before possibly playing in extended spring games Monday and Tuesday in Tampa.

Manager Joe Girardi also said Posada could take batting practice on Friday. The catcher went on the disabled list April 28 with right rotator cuff tendinitis.

Hughes has a stress fracture in one of his ribs, and the right-hander isn't expected back before July.

ATHLETICS: Chad Gaudin is moving from the rotation to the bullpen, where he's spent most of his previous five major league seasons.

The A's need to make room for the return of right-handed starter Rich Harden , who is scheduled to come off the 15-day disabled list and start Sunday's series finale at Texas.

TWINS: Placed right-handed pitcher Scott Baker on the disabled list with a strained right groin and called up right-hander Kevin Slowey from a rehab stint with Triple-A Rochester.

Slowey, who was rehabbing a right biceps strain, is scheduled to start today against the White Sox.

METS: Pedro Martinez is scheduled to throw a side session on Friday in Florida, another step in the pitcher's rehabilitation from a strained left hamstring.

Martinez threw a side session on Tuesday, and the Mets are waiting to see how he comes out of it before his next workout.

- Orlando Hernandez received permission from a foot specialist to have the protective boot removed from his troublesome right foot and begin light running and throwing program in Florida.

CARDINALS: Starter Mark Mulder has a mild rotator cuff strain of his left shoulder, causing St. Louis to stop his injury rehabilitation assignment.

Mulder, coming back from two shoulder operations, was evaluated Wednesday in St. Louis by team physician Dr. George Paletta . The Cardinals plan to rest Mulder for a week to 10 days before re-evaluating him.

PIRATES: Shortstop Jack Wilson will remain out of the lineup for at least two more weeks with a strained left calf that has sidelined him for all but three games.

GIANTS: Right-hander Brad Hennessey was optioned to Triple-A Fresno and replaced by right-hander Billy Sadler .

Hennessey, 28, was 4-5 with a 3.42 ERA in 69 games with San Francisco in 2007. But he couldn't get on-track this season, allowing 23 earned runs in 16 innings.
