The Christian rock band Resurrection was a sort of beachhead in the culture wars when it was started in the early 1970s.

It was arguably one of the first of its kind, said Glenn Kaiser, of Chicago's Jesus People USA Evangelical Covenant Church. He and his wife, Wendi Kaiser, fronted the band for about 20 years.

The Kaisers and the Glenn Kaiser Band, a blues rock trio, will stage concerts and lead discussions on art and culture Wednesday and Thursday in Augusta.

The Kaisers are organizers of the Cornerstone Festival in Chicago, a sort of Christian Woodstock, which fields about 350 bands and solo artists and sports and teaching events during a four-day run in July. It attracts 18,000 to 22,000 people, according to Mr. Kaiser.

The free-flowing Cornerstone has evolved to include filmmaking, sculpturing, photography and dance. It would be hard to name a genre that is not in some way surfacing at Cornerstone Festival, said the graying, pony-tailed Mr. Kaiser, who also plays at biker events.

A series of seminars, called Imaginarium, was added to Cornerstone about 10 years ago.

One such seminar for this year listed on the Cornerstone Web site is The Belly of the Mind: Memory at the Movies. Using movies such as Finding Nemo and 50 First Dates as a starting point, it will explore how memories shape personal identity and relationships.

Cornerstone gives people a chance to have fun and really hear one another. The festival has a high percentage of non-Christians in attendance.

"We have such incredible diversity. That is the kind of thing we have to deal with in our inner-city community," Mr. Kaiser said.

Jesus People church has about 500 adult members who hold everything in common. The members live in a 10-story hotel and a second building behind it in Chicago's inner city.

As Cornerstone's ministry, it runs a 500-bed homeless shelter, cares for about 95 low-income senior citizens and does outreach to youths. The community and its outreach are supported by various businesses it owns, including a roofing supply company with three locations in Chicago, its own record label and a publishing company.
