Book sale

Friends of the Aiken County Library will hold a book sale from 2-5 p.m. today at the Aiken County Library, 314 Chesterfield St. S.W., Aiken.

There will be hundreds of books, donated to the library, for sale in the first floor meeting room.

Golfing for charity

The Relay for Life Aiken Golf Classic will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Woodside Plantation, 1419 Silver Bluff Road. Proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society.

The cost is $120, part of which will pay for play, lunch and hors d'oeuvres. Call (877) 227-9398.

Family story time

In celebration of Month of the Young Child, a family story time will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Aiken County Public Library, 314 Chesterfield St. S.W., Aiken.

Hear your history

The Langley-Bath-Clearwater Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the LBC/Midland Valley Lions Club in Bath.

Oscar Kemp will discuss the history of the Storm Branch area. The public is invited. For more information, call (803) 593-3034.

Relay for Life

North Augusta High School will hold the Relay for Life at 7 p.m. Friday.

More than 20 teams have signed up for the event, which celebrates cancer survivors and provides support for victims.

The relay ends Saturday at 7 a.m.

Bottle expert

Bottles with Bill Baab will be presented at 2 p.m. Saturday at Aiken County Public Library, 314 Chesterfield St. S.W., Aiken.

Mr. Baab, a local antique-bottle authority and author of Augusta on Glass , will give informal appraisals of bottles and sign copies of his book. He will talk about his adventures digging up antique bottles and what he has learned about local history from his finds.

Horse talk

The Aiken County Extension Office will hold a webcast of the 2008 Southeast Equine Conference on Friday, May 9, at the Aiken County Agricultural Services Center, 1555 Richland Ave. E., Aiken.

Session 1 will run from 8:45 a.m. to noon and Session 2 will run from 1 to 4:15 p.m. Lunch is not provided.

The Future of Horse Nutrition will focus on feeding horses for different stages of life, including nutrition for reproduction, growth, performance and for senior horses, in addition to addressing recent advances in equine nutrition, including the new requirements for horses.

The cost is $10 and includes snacks at breaks. To register, call Vickie Browder at (803) 649-6297, ext. 0, or register at the door from 8 to 8:30 a.m. Friday, May 9.

Lifeguards wanted

The Aiken County Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department is seeking water safety instructors, lifeguards and aquatics supervisors.

Walk at lunch

Lunch Bunch Walkers meet from noon to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday each week to walk to the oldies at Gregg Park, 119A Trolley Line Road, Graniteville.
