All the listed events are open to the public, although membership in some organizations may be required.

Today: The Women's Pistol Shooting Group will meet at Carolina Star Gun and Hunt Club pistol range at 1 and 3 p.m. This group is open to all women pistol shooters. This session will be "Bring a Friend Day." Each woman attendee is welcome to bring a friend of either gender. Beginners are encouraged to attend. Range fee is $15. Friday-Sunday: Graves Mountain, a former mine known for its rare -- and sometimes very valuable -- minerals, will be open to the public for the semiannual Rock, Swap & Dig event in which visitors can chisel away at rock outcrops in search of treasure. The mine will be open 8 a.m.-6 p.m. each day, and admission is free. Mineral and rock collectors from across the Southeast will have booths for buying, selling and trading, and vendors will provide food and drinks. To get to Graves Mountain from Lincolnton, Ga., go west on Highway 378 toward Washington. The mine is about three miles ahead on the left. For details, call (706) 359-3862.

Saturday: A Concealed Weapons Permit class for South Carolina residents will be held at Carolina Star Gun and Hunt Club. Contact Robert Brewer at (803) 649-9972 or brewercwp@gmail.com for information.

Saturday: Rock'n 4 the River, a free concert featuring seven bands, will be held at Riverfront Marina next to the Boathouse from 1-9 p.m. The festival, sponsored by Oceana and Savannah Riverkeeper, also includes environmental education, games and food. Call (706) 755-4839 for details.

April 27: An ATA Registered Trap Shoot will be held at Carolina Star Gun and Hunt Club at 10 a.m. Contact Peggy Crockett at (803) 640-0878 for more information.

April 27: A NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program session will be held at 1:30 and 3 p.m. at Carolina Star Gun and Hunt Club. Range fee is $15. For details, contact Ed Majzlik at (803) 641-1742.

May 8: The Coastal Conservation Association will hold its spring barbecue at 6 p.m. at the River Island pavilion off Blackstone Camp Road in Columbia County. Dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m. For more details, e-mail Greg Poteet at gcpoteet@mindspring.com.
