Tracing roots

The Old Edgefield District African-American Genealogical Society will meet from 2:30 to 4 p.m. today at St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church in Abbeville, S.C. The program will be on Exploring Our Military Heritage.

School reception

A reception honoring Elizabeth Everitt will begin at 6 p.m. Monday at the Langley-Bath-Clearwater Middle School auditorium. The Area 3/Midland Valley community is invited.

Horse project

A 4-H Horse Project meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Boots Bridles and Britches. Youth and adult leaders/volunteers must be registered for the project by May 2 in the Aiken County 4-H office.

Horse ownership is not required to participate in the project. There will be discussion of 4-H judging and riding disciplines.

Reservations for the meeting are required by Tuesday.

Special Olympics

The Area 15 Special Olympics spring games will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Aiken High School stadium, 449 Rutland Drive N.W.

Volunteers may register up until the day of the event.

Principal needed

A meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the South Aiken High School auditorium to discuss the upcoming principal's vacancy at the school. Parents of South Aiken students are urged to attend.

Books for sale

There will be a book sale from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 27, in the first-floor meeting room of Aiken County Public Library, 314 Chesterfield St. S.W. in Aiken. The sale is being held by Friends of the Aiken County Library.

Golfing for charity

The Relay for Life Aiken Golf Classic will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, April 28, at Woodside Plantation, 1419 Silver Bluff Road. Proceeds from the benefit will go to the American Cancer Society.

The cost is $120, part of which will pay for play, lunch and hors d'oeuvres. Call (877) 227-9398.

Cattlemen to meet

The Aiken County Cattlemen's Association will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, in the Aiken County Agriculture Services Building, 1555 Richland Ave. E. in Aiken.

There will be a steak dinner, with Dr. Johnny Rossi and Brian Beer speaking. Reservations are required by Friday.

Hear your history

The Langley-Bath-Clearwater Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at the LBC/Midland Valley Lions Club in Bath.
