The Chronicle welcomes you online! Please feel free to respond to these editorials or letters to the editor by sending your letters to the editor.

We condense letters; most, as published, won't exceed 300 words. A letter must include the writer's name and city, which will be published, and an address and telephone number for verification, which will not be published. Writers may be limited to one letter every 30 days. Open letters, letters to third parties and poetry are not considered. Letters from people living outside the Chronicle's circulation area usually are not considered.

Editor, The Chronicle

I welcome to the Central Savannah River Area new Editorial Page Editor Suzanne Downing. I wish Phil Kent the best, but he was too far to the right for my taste. If he or talk show host Austin Rhodes offer Ms. Downing any advice analyze it carefully; it may have a Pat Buchanan-Rush Limbaugh slant to it.

I would like to offer a few suggestions for improving the editorial page. Analyze it carefully; it may have a Bill Clinton-Al Gore slant to it. The first thing to do is take columnist David Sisler off the editorial page and put him in the religion section. We political junkies do not want to be preached to on Saturday mornings. I would like to see more of Ellen Goodman; she is my favorite columnist. I enjoy reading Bob Novak's column but I do not agree with his elitist point of view.

Ms. Downing may have difficulty trying to make sense out of all the fuss over the Confederate flag and racism. It would be beneficial to everyone if we could avoid dragging this issue into the 21st century.

When she gets over the culture shock she'll find the majority of us are kind and considerate people. ...

Hoyt Goodson, Waynesboro
