LINCOLNTON, Ga.- Mr. Roy "Pop" Lewis, 98, of The Lewis Family, of Washington Hwy., entered into rest Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at Wills Memorial Hospital. Pop was the patriarch of the bluegrass gospel singing family, who in 2000, celebrated 50 years of music. In that same year, he was inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame, and in 1992, the family was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, in Macon, Georgia. The funeral will be held at 4 p.m., Thursday, March 25, at Hephzibah Baptist Church with Reverend Allen Danner, Rev. Steve Snider and Dr. Edward McCurry officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pop was the son of the late Robert Theodore Lewis and the late Laura Mosley Lewis. He had traveled over 100,000 miles each year for 51 years and at the age of 96 was forced to retire due to health complications. He was preceded in death by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 77 years, Pauline Hol loway Lewis, his mother and father, two brothers and seven sisters, son, Mosley and granddaughter, Susan Lewis. Survivors include three daughters, Miggie Lewis, Polly L. Copsey and husband, Leon, Janis Phillips and husband, Earl of Lincolnton; four sons, Little Roy Lewis and wife, Bonnie, Wallace Lewis and wife, Betty Jean, of Lincolnton, Calvin Esley Lewis and wife, Evelyn, of Hephzibah and Talmadge Lewis and wife, Cornelia, of Evans; 12 grandchildren, Travis Lewis, Keith Lewis, Karen L. Saggus, Cal Lewis, Elaine Lewis, Joey Lewis, Stan Lewis, Mike Lewis, Sheri Easter, Scott Williamson, Lewis Phillips, Kristen Boswell and 16 great-grandchildren. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to The Lewis Family Pavilion Fund, c/o Dr. Edward McCurry, 940 Ellenboro Henrietta Road, Ellenboro, N.C. 28040 or to the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame, P.O.
