Rock acts Hinder and Papa Roach and country singer Kenny Rogers will perform at the University of South Carolina Aiken's Convocation Center in May.
The center's general manager, Jennifer Kelly, and USC Aiken Chancellor Thomas Hallman recently announced the performers for the first two shows to be held at the new 4,100-seat arena.
Hinder shot to stardom last year with the top 40 hit Lips of an Angel. The group and Papa Roach will perform May 1.
"The excitement is building as we are getting closer and closer to our opening day," Dr. Hallman said. "With the announcement of the first acts to play our new arena, our dreams are certainly now a reality. We look forward to opening our beautiful new arena."
Mr. Rogers, whose hits include The Gambler, will be at the Convocation Center on May 5.
Bobby Blue Bland and Sir Charles Jones will headline a blues festival May 25. Organizers said they hope to make the festival an annual event.
"We're very excited about our first several shows," Ms. Kelly said. "Our goal is to provide something for everyone, and we think we're well on our way."

Tickets for the May 1 Hinder and Papa Roach concert at the University of South Carolina Aiken's Convocation Center are on sale. Tickets are $26.50 and can be purchased at the Etherredge Center box office, online at www.uscatix.com or by telephone at (866) 722-8877.
