WAYNESBORO, Ga. - Mr. Rufus Eugene Lee, 73, entered into rest Friday, March 14, 2003 at the Burke Medical Center in Waynesboro. Mr. Lee has been a resident of Burke County since 1966, he retired from International Paper after 35 years of service. Mr. Lee served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, he was a charter member of McBean Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, trustee and Sunday school superintendant. He also was a member of the Rod and Gun Hunting Club. Mr. Lee is preceded in death by his parents Rufus Elester Lee and Ethel Douglas Lee also a son Douglas E. Lee. He is also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters Reginal Lee, Miriam Kellett, Pauline Crosby, Ruth Davis, Marvin Lee and a grandchild Misty Tinley. Survivors include his wife Betty J. Strickland Lee, whom he was married for 49 years. Two daughters Teri Lee, Waynesboro; Brenda Lee (Dale) Williamson, Waynesboro; three sisters Wannell Andrews, PA.; Delores Parrot, Houston, TX.; Carrie Dibble, Acworth, Ga.; one brother Edsel C. Lee, Waycross, Ga.; three grandchildren Jeremy Tinley, Joshua Tinley, Amanda Perkins Wesley and three great grandchildren Jeremy Tinley Jr., Cody Lee Tinley and Austin Taylor Waller. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 17, 2003 at 3 p.m., at McBean Baptist Church with Rev. Clayton Galloway and Rev. Cecil Rice officiating. Mr. Lee will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Burke Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call at the residence 446 Hwy. 23 South Waynesboro, GA 30830. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 16, 2003 from 7 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.
