With a conference championship in tow, the Augusta State men began racking up individual awards Tuesday.

The 17th-ranked Jaguars swept the main Peach Belt Conference awards for the first time in eight seasons. Dip Metress was named c oach of the y ear, junior forward Tyrekus "A.J." Bowman was named p layer of the y ear and guard Ben Madgen was named f reshman of the y ear.

Also, Bowman, Madgen and sophomore center Garret Siler comprised one-third of the 12-member All-Conference squad.

"I'm glad for our players," Metress said. "I thought A.J. deserved it. I thought Ben deserved it. I was hoping Garret would make the top 12 with the impact he's had this season."

Bowman led the league in scoring with a 20.4 average. He also finished in the top-10 in rebounding, steals, blocks and field-goal percentage.

Madgen was eighth in conference scoring (15.7). He placed second in

3-point field-goal percentage and third in free-throw percentage.

Siler led the league in field-goal percentage (.689) and blocks (70).

Metress earned his first Peach Belt Coach of the Year honor in his third season at Augusta State. The Jaguars were picked to finish fifth in the league in a preseason coaches poll.

But Metress led the Jaguars on a 14-game winning streak and into the top-25 rankings for the first time in three decades. The Jaguars are currently 22-5 overall and enter this week's conference tournament as the South No. 1 seed.

Augusta State swept all the major categories in the 1998-99 season when Gary Tuell was named c oach of the y ear, Kavossy Franklin notched p layer of the y ear and Gary Boodnikoff was selected f reshman of the y ear.

On the women's side, USC Aiken senior guard Mindy Allee and Augusta State junior guard Deo Ngulela made the 12-member All-Conference squad. North Georgia center Porsha White of Hephzibah was named f reshman of the y ear. Clayton State's Dennis Cox was named c oach of the y ear, while Lander's Tiara Good earned player of the year honors.
