Two more candidates have joined the race for the 10th Congressional District seat in the June 19 special election.
Republicans Julian "Hutch" Hutchins, 56, and Bill Greene, 42, have announced their candidacies for the seat vacated by the death of Charlie Norwood earlier this month.
Dr. Hutchins is a physician and real estate professional who lives in Augusta and works in the emergency room at Burke Medical Center in Waynesboro, Ga. He ran for the 9th Congressional District seat in 1988, when he lived in Commerce, Ga.
Dr. Hutchins graduated from the Medical College of Georgia and served in the Air Force. He helped found and was chairman of Augusta's Character City Coalition. He has held positions at a number of hospitals and is currently an associate broker with Keller Williams Realty Augusta Partners.
Dr. Hutchins and his wife, Lane, have three grown children and are active members of Kiokee Baptist Church in Appling.
Mr. Greene, of Braselton, Ga., is the founder and president of RightMarch.com, an online conservative organization formed as a "rapid response force" to enable its members to take effective action against activities by online liberal groups such as MoveOn.org.
In 2004, the Washington Times called Mr. Greene a "conservative Internet guru," according to a news release from his campaign headquarters.
He also is president of Strategic Internet Campaign Management Inc., an online political consulting firm that enables organizations and candidates to harness the power of the Internet for fundraising and grassroots activism.
He taught political science and international relations at Florida International University in Miami. Mr. Greene attends Grace Bible Family Fellowship. He and his wife, Nancy, have two children.
Republican state Sens. Jim Whitehead, of Evans, and Ralph Hudgens, of Comer, and Augusta businesswoman Jackie Poteet also have announced their candidacies.
Democrat Terry Holland, a Thomson jeweler who ran against Mr. Norwood in November, also is running for the seat.
