That new office smell is starting to wear off in the corporate headquarters for two Augusta health care companies.

Home health care provider CareSouth relocated its corporate office from a commercial center on Walton Way Extension to the fifth floor of the Augusta Riverfront Center on 10th Street downtown.

Medical software company AWAC moved into CareSouth's old home at 3626 Walton Way Extension last month after being spread out among several locations.

"We are under one roof now," said Jan Wiggins, marketing director for AWAC.

CareSouth had used the building for five years.

Augusta-based AWAC is a division of inVentiv Health Inc. of New Jersey, which purchased the company last year for $75 million. AWAC offers real-time health insurance claims evaluation and error detection. Both companies employ about 100 people.

CareSouth's new office is the same size as its previous one, 20,000 square feet. The only change is the view.

"Our employees enjoy the benefits of being downtown," CareSouth Chief Executive Rick Griffin said. "We are now personally vested in our downtown community and its development and look forward to making it an even better place to work, shop and live."

CareSouth moved from Macon to Augusta in 2000. The company currently operates 12 Medicare-certified home health agencies in six states. It employs 900 people nationally.
