Leash law applies to cats, too

Regarding L. Deslandes' Feb. 8 letter about neighbors trapping cats. I sympathize very much with her about her missing cats, but there are leash laws for a reason. I do not know what leash laws exist in North Augusta, but the law in Evans includes cats.

I have two cats of my own. They are spayed and declawed and stay indoors where they are safe from other animals and cannot be a nuisance to my neighbors. Everyone is not a pet lover, and many people don't follow the law about their pets. There are at least seven cats in my neighborhood that stalk my many bird feeders on a daily basis, and I have attempted to trap them myself to turn them over to animal control because they are a nuisance.

If she doesn't want anymore harm to come to her pets, she should follow the law and keep them indoors or on her own property. Frankly, whether there is a law or not, if she knows her neighbor is harming her pets and she still allows them to go out and wander where she knows they are not wanted, she shares some of the blame.

Donna Steele, Evans, Ga.
