Saying goodbye to a 'lovely lady'

Pastor Rich Bowen asked mourners at Thursday's funeral for Jessica Lynn Fulmer to stop crying, if just for a moment, and remember the laughter the 21-year-old brought to their lives.

"You can't think about her ... without feeling a lot of joy," said the Rev. Bowen, of New Hope Worship Center.

Ms. Fulmer, 21, and Melissa Kristin Eustice, 20, both 2005 Lakeside High School graduates, died Sunday after a wreck on Interstate 16 near Metter, Ga.

A third victim, Jamie Lynn Carter, 22, of Warner Robins, Ga., died Wednesday.

The Rev. Bowen said during his eulogy at Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Home that it was fitting Ms. Fulmer would be remembered on Valentine's Day.

"I think it's appropriate on this day of love that we're gathered to talk about this lovely lady," he said.

Dozens of photographs of Ms. Fulmer with her family and friends were displayed at the Martinez funeral home, which was filled to capacity Thursday afternoon.

Many will remember Ms. Fulmer as a beautiful woman, a good student and a devoted daughter and sister, the Rev. Bowen said.

He said he'll remember a vivacious little girl who loved to play dress-up and enjoyed the music of Sunday morning worship services.

"Some people didn't live as much life in 80 years as she did in 20," he said. "I can't help but think that heaven is a bit sweeter today."

Authorities have said the women were traveling on I-16 to Statesboro, where they attended Georgia Southern University, when the driver, possibly Ms. Eustice, lost control of their Toyota 4Runner, which flipped several times.

Police are seeking a white car, possibly a Ford Taurus, that might have veered into the women's lane, contributing to the wreck, a spokesman for the Georgia State Patrol said Thursday.

The funeral for Ms. Eustice will be held Saturday in Tennessee.
