Praises, criticizes radio show host Web posted February 13, 1999
Mr. Rhodes is to be commended for his work with the Civic Center and his support of Pat Cumiskey, general manager of the Civic Center. Mr. Cumiskey is the best thing that's happened to Augusta since old Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin. I think he should be Augusta's next mayor.
Getting back to Mr. Rhodes, he doesn't seem to understand there are some people who have no desire to come to his radio station and debate him -- especially people who support Planned Parenthood or whose ideas differ from Linda Schrenko's on public education. The reason could be that there seems to be no gray area in his thinking. Everything is cut and dried, black or white, written in stone and set in concrete. This makes it difficult for reasonable people to have an intelligent conversation with him. He denies himself the freedom to doubt, and to doubt is one of the most precious freedoms we have. Perhaps as he matures he will shed his schoolyard bully persona. If he can do this he will become much more appreciated by the people in this community.
