Tidbits and trivia from the Academy Award nominations

Trivia from this year's Oscar nominations:

- John C. Reilly, nominated for supporting actor for "Chicago," actually co-stars in three best-picture nominees: "Chicago," "Gangs of New York" and "The Hours."

- Cinematographer Conrad L. Hall, who died Jan. 4 of complications of bladder cancer, was nominated for "Road to Perdition." He's the first posthumous nominee since 1995, when the late producer Mario Cecchi Gori and the late actor-writer Massimo Troisi were nominated for "Il Postino."

- John Williams' nomination for original score for "Catch Me If You Can" is his 42nd in music categories, making him the most nominated living person. Walt Disney holds the overall record with 64 nominations, and is the all-time winner with 26.

- Adrien Brody of "The Pianist" is the only nominee in the lead-actor category who has not already won an Oscar.

- For the first time since 1976, two non-English screenplays were nominated: "Talk to Her" (Spain) and "Y Tu Mama Tambien" (Mexico). (The last time, it was "Cousin, Cousine" (France) and "Seven Beauties" (Italy).)

- "Talk to Her," which also won a nomination for director Pedro Almodovar, was ineligible in the foreign-language category because Spain submitted another movie, "Mondays in the Sun." It did not receive a nomination.

- Donald Kaufman, one of two brothers nominated for adapted screenplay for "Adaptation," is the first fictional character to earn an Oscar nomination. Donald was created by screenwriter Charlie Kaufman for a movie about his efforts to concoct a screenplay.

- 2002's top-grossing movie, "Spider-Man," earned just two nominations: sound and visual effects.

- Richard Gere, who won a Golden Globe award for portraying sleazy lawyer Billy Flynn in "Chicago," didn't score an acting nomination Tuesday, although four of his co-stars did.

- Julianne Moore was nominated twice: as lead actress for "Far From Heaven" and supporting actress for "The Hours." No one has ever won two performing awards in the same year. The last time anyone was nominated twice was in 1993, when both Holly Hunter and Emma Thompson were mentioned in lead and supporting categories. Hunter won lead actress for "The Piano," but her co-star from that film, Anna Paquin, claimed the supporting actress trophy.

- Best-actress competitors Nicole Kidman ("The Hours") and Renee Zellweger ("Chicago") are the only two repeating acting nominees from last year, when Kidman was up for "Moulin Rouge" and Zellweger for "Bridget Jones's Diary." Both lost to "Monster's Ball" star Halle Berry.
