Area parents will have a new online community beginning Friday when Augusta Family Magazine launches its Web site, augustafamily.com.
"It is very exciting for parents to have a place where they can interact with each other," said Augusta Family editor Karin Calloway. "Studies have shown that suburban mothers tend to feel disconnected. We're hoping to create a site where parents can come and make those connections."
Users can participate in forums where they can post questions and concerns regarding their children or daily family life.
The site also will feature staff blogs, including Mrs. Calloway's Dinner Dish , a blog focused on cooking, family dinner conversations and pop culture. Different bloggers each month will contribute to Mom's the Word.
In February, parents can look forward to posts by elementary school teacher, mother of three and author Lucy Adams (If Mama Don't Laugh, It Ain't Funny ). Augusta Family correspondent Grace Belangia, a mother of two, will comment on family life and juggling many roles with her Hat Trick blog.
The Web site will also be a resource for parents. One section will include links to information about local health care facilities and pediatricians and links to area private and public schools. There's also a community event calendar and photo gallery.
"This Web site is a one-stop shop for almost any topic concerning family life," Mrs. Calloway said.
