A woman found dead in Daytona Beach, Fla., more than three months ago has recently been identified as a former Augusta resident.

According to a Tuesday article in the Daytona Beach News-Journal , the body of a woman found partially clothed in a grassy lot Oct. 21 was identified about two weeks ago as 18-year-old Mamie Jameka Thomas, who lived in Augusta until May.

Jennia Marcella Lawson, of Daytona Beach, said her sister had been reported missing after she didn't return to her Daytona Beach home on Oct. 19. The two sisters lived together in an apartment.

Ms. Lawson said her sister had lived in the Georgetown section of south Augusta with an aunt and uncle and left "for a better life."

"She was in the ROTC in school and really lived a sheltered life in Augusta," Ms. Lawson said.

Ms. Thomas' body was found in a vacant lot lying face-down, clad in only a short plaid skirt and sneakers, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal .

Ms. Lawson said she plans to have a small memorial in Florida "for her friends here" and a funeral in Augusta.
