AIKEN --- A new Family Y is coming to Aiken this spring.

The organization announced Monday that it is taking over Health Solutions, a division of Hitchcock Healthcare.

The two will share space in Hitchcock Healthcare's building at 690 Medical Park Drive in Aiken, said Millie Schumacher, community relations director for The Family Y.

The organization hopes to open March 31.

According to Ms. Schumacher, Hitchcock will continue to operate its rehabilitation center, but members of Health Solutions will become members of The Family Y.

"We are basically assuming their membership," she said. "It's going to have all new fitness equipment and some programs that are unique to the Family Y."

She said childwatch programs will be offered, but that The Y and Hitchcock Healthcare will share locker rooms.

The Family Y is currently raising money to build another facility on 20 acres donated by FineDeering Development, to be called the Wyatt Family YMCA.

That facility will be in Trolley Run Station and could be open in 2011. That fundraising is going well, she said, but will take time.

"It's just an opportunity for us to go ahead and have a facility in Aiken and offer those services to the community now rather than postpone it for several years," she said.
