Mr. Powell, a native of Miston, Tenn., had retired as an insurance agent.
Survivors include a son, J. Nicholas Powell, Augusta; a daughter, Cassandra Nicholas Powell, Marietta; a sister, Louise Marshall, Ridgely, Tenn.; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to: Alzheimer's Association, 1899 Central Ave., Augusta, GA 30904.
The family will receive friends today at the residence of J. Nicholas Powell, No. 2 Retreat, Wheeler Road, Augusta.
Platt's Funeral Home, Crawford Avenue, Augusta, is in charge of arrangements.
