I keep reading complaints from readers about The Boondocks and other cartoons. What amazes me is the harsh attitude and statements and the thinly veiled threats of canceling subscriptions if they don't get their way.
Their juvenile behavior is most likely inversely related to their IQs and their inability to see past the critical observations of the cartoonist, Aaron McGruder.
I will admit when the cartoon was first published in The Augusta Chronicle, I didn't care for it. But the more I read it, the more I liked it. It is now one of my favorite strips, along with Overboard, Fox Trot and For Better or For Worse.
Some readers have vehemently opposed its presence in the comics section and would like to see it moved to the op-ed page, much like the beleaguered Doonesbury was years ago, citing its "political message."
Many days I find the strip absolutely hilarious, at other times it provokes introspection that helps to understand the cultural differences that permeate society.
I enjoy The Boondocks and Non Sequitur by Wiley Miller. I would love to see Non Sequitur return to the comics page and see the lame strips Get Fuzzy and Zits relegated to the trash can.
For the curious or assumptive reader, I am a white, mostly Republican, male but without membership in the Augusta National - a topic for another day.
