A thin premise

Web posted January 23, 1997

Augusta Chronicle Editorial Staff

Like the blinding flash of strobe lights in a nude-dancing parlor, the U.S. Health Service may have illuminated, finally, the reason women lodge sexual-harassment complaints more frequently than men.

That's not what the researchers intended; they were seeking ways to thwart the sting of sea lice, tiny jellyfish that bedevil swimmers.

But in noting that men are less frequently harmed by the critters, the Health Service made this startling point: Women are usually affected more than men because they have thinner skin.

There. We knew it all along.
