The sight of extra airplanes at Augusta Regional Airport during Masters Week is not new.
But this year, some of those commercial planes will be flying nonstop from New York, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia for the first time.
Arlington-based US Airways announced this week that the airline will add 50-seat regional jets between April 9 and April 14 to fly from the major hubs of LaGuardia Airport, Reagan National Airport and Philadelphia International Airport.
Augusta Regional's two commercial carriers have typically added only extra flights to Charlotte and Atlanta to handle the onslaught of visitors.
US Airways also will expand service starting April 7 between Augusta and Charlotte by adding three daily flights on 50-seat regional jets and 126-seat Boeing 737 aircraft.
US Airways Express currently operates five daily flights between the two cities on turboprop planes.
"This (Masters) is something that is a popular event every year, so we wanted to give our customers up and down the East Coast the opportunity to attend the golf tournament," US Airways spokeswoman Amy Kudwa said.
Delta subsidiary Atlantic Southeast Airlines and Continental Express, which will begin service in Augusta on March 3, have not released their Masters Week schedules.
