Bill Clinton's visit cancelled
A planned visit by former President Clinton to Paine College on Monday has been cancelled.
The town hall meeting will no longer occur because of a scheduling problem, according to a news release Saturday from the Hillary for President Campaign's Augusta office.
Jail holds Floridian wanted in slaying
A Florida man wanted on a murder charge remained in the Burke County Jail on Saturday night.
Keith Edwan Lines, 29, of Miramar, Fla., was being held by the Broward County Sheriff's Office on charges of murder, attempted murder and failing to register with Florida's sex offender registry, officials said.
The Richmond County Sheriff's Office, Waynesboro Police Department and FBI were trying to track down Mr. Lines, Waynesboro Police Investigator Claude Wade said. Mr. Lines was arrested at a Waynesboro home Thursday evening.
"He has family in the Augusta area," Investigator Wade said. "He was going back and forth between Waynesboro and Augusta."
Investigator Wade said the charges likely stem from an old warrant, but he didn't know any other details in the case.
Mr. Lines, who is being held on bond, will soon be sent to Broward County, Investigator Wade said.
Fort Gordon to hold dedication, casing
Two special ceremonies will be held by the 513th Military Intelligence Brigade at Fort Gordon on Friday.
At 3 p.m. in the brigade's Motor Pool on Chamberlain Avenue, a maintenance bay will be dedicated to Sgt. Taurean Harris, who was killed in Afghanistan, according to a news release from the fort.
A Casing of the Colors ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. for Task Force Lightning on Barton Field. The unit completed its mission in Afghanistan, and its flag will be cased and stored until needed.

Augusta Alzheimer's office has workshop
The Alzheimer's Association's Augusta regional office will offer a free workshop from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Jan. 28.
The workshop, "Partnering With Your Doctor: A Workshop for Persons with Memory Problems and Their Care Partners," will take place at Elmcroft Assisted Living, 515 The Pass, Martinez.

Washington museum holds quilt exhibit
A quilt and coverlet exhibit of 19th century Georgia is being displayed at the Washington Historical Museum through Feb. 29.
The museum is at 308 E. Robert Toombs Ave. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sundays, according to a news release. Admission costs $3 for adults, $2 for children age 6 to 12 and free for children 5 and younger.
Morris Museum will hold Appraisal Day
Art, antiques or other family treasures can be appraised at a special event being offered from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Morris Museum of Art.
The Appraisal Day event will include expert appraisers from Neal Auction Co. of New Orleans. The cost will be $10 per object and $25 for three objects.
Certification classes will be at schools
In partnership with Augusta Technical College, the Richmond County Board of Education's 21st Century Community Learning Centers will offer several classes for certification.
Lucy C. Laney High School will have basic gas metal arc welding classes.

Aiken Elementary up for Palmetto's Finest
Aiken Elementary School is among 12 finalists for the Palmetto's Finest award, given out by each year by Carolina First Bank and the South Carolina Association of School Administrators.
The coveted award requires a lengthy application process, including a 20-page application and examination review visits to the schools.
The process includes elements on pupil achievement, faculty training, program goals and teaching quality, office practices and community involvement.
The winner will be announced March 3 in Columbia.
Coast Guard Band will perform at church
The U.S. Coast Guard Band will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Augusta.

The Sergeants Major Association at Fort Gordon will hold Sweetheart Ball 2008 at the Gordon Club at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 9.
