A 45-year-old brick house in Brynwood subdivision was a perfect fit for Beth Dixon and her husband, Army Capt. Charles Dixon.
The couple wed in 2004, and after Capt. Dixon, a rear detachment commander at Fort Gordon, learned he would be staying in the Augusta area for a while, they decided in May 2006 to purchase the 2,000-square-foot ranch-style house.
"We looked at a lot of the new construction in Grovetown and around Columbia County, but we really love this neighborhood and this house," Mrs. Dixon said. "It has original red oak hardwood floors and crown molding. It really has the character of an older home, but it's also got bigger bedrooms, good closet space, good-size bathrooms."
The couple made some cosmetic enhancements to the three-bedroom, two-bath house, removing wallpaper and painting walls, Mrs. Dixon said.
Many of the decorative items have personal meaning, including accessories and artwork that were wedding gifts, furniture from Mrs. Dixon's grandparents, and various pictures and paraphernalia from Wofford College, where the couple met.
The house is ideally located for the Dixons. It is minutes from Augusta Exchange shopping center, downtown, Fort Gordon and Augusta Mall.
"And we're five minutes away from 1-20, so when our family comes to visit, we're right off the interstate," Mrs. Dixon said. "This house had everything we were looking for. It's probably as close to perfect as I could imagine our first home to be."
