AUGUSTA, Ga.- Entered into rest Wednesday, January 16, 2002, Mr. Arthur George Holmes, 74, husband of Nancy Godbee Holmes. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 19, 2002 at 11:30 a.m. at Saint Mary on the Hill Catholic Church with Father Richard Hart officiating. Interment will be in Westover Cemetery. Mr. Holmes was a devoted father and husband. He was a lifelong resident of Augusta and owner of Holmes Construction and Development Company and Holmes Realty. He attended Boys Catholic High School, graduated from Academy of Richmond and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Saint Mary on the Hill Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Nancy Godbee Holmes, Martinez; son and daughter-in-law, Vincent and Pamela Holmes, Verona, Wis.; daughter and son-in-law, Christina and James Ahles, Ft. Huachuca, Ariz.; two sons, Joseph Arthur Holmes and Matthew Arthur Holmes of Augusta; sister and brother-in-law, Tasia and Bill Bikas, Cleveland, Tenn.; brother and sister-in-law, Connie and Colette Holmes, Isle of Palms, S.C. Pallbearers will be Mark Koppelman, Tony Leveritt, Phillip Chivers, Jeff Oglesby, George Holmes, Michael Holmes, Charles Bikas. Honorary Pallbearers will be sub-contractors of Holmes Construction and Development Company and special friends. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 246 David Road, Martinez, Georgia 30907.
