Peggy Hines said she and other parents of Butler High School students were concerned about their children, so they restarted the Butler High Parent Teacher Student Association this school year.
The organization is holding a meet-and-greet with Richmond County school board members and the community in the school's cafeteria tonight.
The purpose of the event is to raise the parent and community involvement in school, Ms. Hines said.
"We want to get the parents, teachers and the community involved, to let them know what's going on at school," she said. "It's open to the community, too, because we have a lot of students that work in the neighborhood and in the community."
Ms. Hines said the association is trying to be active again in the school.
"It hadn't been in place for a while," she said, "and there are things that - as parents of students there - we want to see back in place."
