Tech falls, Crum reaches landmark Web posted January 12, 1997
Crum, who has a 600-225 mark in his 26th season at Louisville, is the 19th major college coach to reach the milestone.
Louisville (13-1) missed 14 of 23 free throws and was outrebounded 52-34. But the Cardinals scored 27 points off a season-high 25 turnovers by Georgia Tech (6-7).
DeJuan Wheat scored on a layup off a turnover with 14:25 left in the game to give Louisville a 45-27 lead, capping an 11-2 run. Georgia Tech then went on a 27-12 run, closing to 57-54 on Matt Harpring's 3-pointer from the right corner with 1:31 to go.
After turnovers by each team, Alvin Sims sank two free throws with 21.8 seconds left to give Louisville a five-point advantage. Georgia Tech cut it to 59-56 on Eddie Elisma's dunk 10 seconds later.
Harpring fouled Damion Dantzler on the ensuing inbound play after three seconds ticked off the clock. Dantzler missed both attempts, but the 6-foot-2 Flynn grabbed the rebound with 6.2 seconds left.
Flynn hit the first free throw for the final margin. Georgia Tech's Gary Saunders misfired on a 3-point attempt as time expired.
Wheat scored 14 points and Dantzler added 12 to lead Louisville, which shot 41 percent from the field.
Eddie Elisma topped Georgia Tech with 13 points. Michael Maddox added 12, while Matt Harpring and Gary Saunders each had 11.

No. 2 Wake Forest 81
DURHAM, N.C. - Tim Duncan scored a season-high 26 points, but it was Wake Forest's clutch 3-point shooting in the second half that enabled the second-ranked and undefeated Demon Deacons to dump No. 10 Duke.
After a relatively weak early-season schedule, the Demon Deacons (12-0, 4-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) have now beaten No. 9 Utah, No. 13 North Carolina and the Blue Devils in the last 12 days.
Wake Forest became the first team in 20 years to beat Duke five straight times in Cameron Indoor Stadium. Its nine consecutive wins over the Blue Devils is the worst skid by Duke against any team in coach Mike Krzyzewski's 17 seasons.
Duke (11-4, 2-2) fell to 4-9 against top five teams since 1992-93 - the season after the Blue Devils won their second straight national title.
The Blue Devils led 40-38 with 17:07 left, but the Demon Deacons went on a 21-9 run to take the lead for good. During the spurt, reserve Steven Goolsby sank two 3-pointers, while Duncan had eight points.
Later in the half as Duke cut the Wake Forest lead to five, Tony Rutland, Goolsby and Joseph Amonett each sank shots from behind the arc. The Demon Deacons took a 72-61 lead and then salted the game away at the free throw line.
After going 2-for-9 from 3-point range in the first half, the Demon Deacons sank 7-of-8 in the second period.
Duncan, who played all 40 minutes, finished with 14 rebounds and four blocks for the 70th double-double of his career, while Goolsby added 12 points.
Roshown McLeod led Duke with 14 points and eight rebounds.
Wake Forest used a 17-3 run midway through the first half to take a 10-point lead as Duke went 5« minutes without scoring.
Duncan got his 21st straight double-double in the first half alone, scoring 11 points in the first 20 minutes, while grabbing 10 rebounds. Duncan also held Duke center and leading scorer Greg Newton - who called Duncan ``soft'' after last year's game here - scoreless in the half after blocking his first two shots.
The Blue Devils went on a 17-6 run of their own late in the half to take their first lead since the opening minutes. But Duncan hit a 19-footer and Sean Allen sank a 15-footer as Wake Forest lead 33-31 at intermission, outrebounding Duke 23-12.
