As chairman of the South Carolina Council of Conservative Citizens, I'd like to address the charges directed against me and the CofCC by letter writer John Hadden (Dec. 18).

The CofCC is not a ``white supremacist group,'' hateful or otherwise. On the other hand, we are not afraid to face facts, and one of those unpleasant facts is that for the past 30 years some blacks have been waging a race war against whites. Most victims of race crime -- about 90 percent -- are white, according to the survey ``Highlights from 20 Years of Surveying Crime Victims.'' Each year almost 1 million white Americans are murdered, robbed, assaulted or raped by black Americans, compared with about 132,000 blacks who are murdered, robbed, assaulted or raped by whites, according to the same survey. Adjusted on a per capita basis, they reveal that blacks are committing more than 50 times the number of violent racial crimes as whites.

Another controversy Mr. Hadden mentions is the flying of the Confederate flag over the South Carolina State House. It is closely related to the ``race war'' cover-up: the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People uses it to keep attention away from its real problems. I am convinced that not more than 25 percent of the black population have views either way about the controversy. ...

Blacks in America enjoy the highest standard of living of blacks anywhere in the world. They certainly didn't get to that station in life by themselves.

Rather than constantly cursing the people responsible for bringing their ancestors here (maybe whites should be doing the cursing?), they should thank their lucky stars that their ancestors were removed from the hellhole that was Africa at that time -- and still is today.
