SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Byrnes High School star runner Marcus Lattimore says he'll sign with South Carolina, spurning efforts by Auburn to land him.
Lattimore was named "Mr. Football" as South Carolina's best player and is considered one of the country's top tailback prospects. He rushed for 1,898 yards and 31 touchdowns last season.
Lattimore announced his choice Tuesday night in front of a large group of family, friends, teammates and interested fans at his Spartanburg church.
Both Scout.com and Rivals.com rate Lattimore as the nation's top running back. Lattimore is No. 19 among ESPNU's top 150 recruits.
Byrnes won two state championships with Lattimore and reached the title game in 2009 before falling to rival Dorman.
