Can the Bulldogs pull off the upset?

  • Follow UGA

Georgia plays LSU on Saturday in the Southeastern Conference championship game.

But the question everyone is asking: Can the Bulldogs knock off the undefeated and top-ranked Tigers?

LSU is favored by 13 or 14 points, depending on which service you use, and the closest scare came when the Tigers knocked off Alabama on the road.

Georgia lost its first two games, but has come on strong with 10 consecutive wins.

IF it does happen, it will be the biggest upset since Georgia beat Alabama in the 60's on the "flea flicker" play at the end of the game.

Georgia can pull the upset

Georgia can pull the upset with good clock management and ball control. LSU is plus 19 in turnover differential and only turned the ball over eight times in twelve games this season. LSU has the best scoring defense and special teams unit in the country. Georgia has the better passing game, but LSU has great cover corners that will force Georgia to remain balanced. Play actions and misdirections will help keep LSU’s corners honest. But if Georgia falls behind early, it will not come back on LSU. I predict 33-13 LSU.

UGA is always at its most

UGA is always at its most dangerous when it is a decisive underdog. This team is statistically better than the 2005 SEC Champions. That year, LSU was ranked third in the land and UGA #13. If I remember correctly, the final score was 37-13 Dawgs. Its happened before, which means it can happen again. Nonetheless, regardless of the outcome, Georgia is a young team with LOADS of returning talent. Win or lose, the Dawgs are going to be a force to be reckoned with the next two or three seasons. If there is a 10% chance of UGA winning, I'm all in! We no longer have the 'hot seat' to contend with, so now lets get back to our winning ways. Let the Big Dawg Eat!

Never say never is very true but this one would be the miracle on Peachtree if the Dawgs win. I will be in my RED and Black all day Saturday!

UGA has nothing to lose.

UGA has nothing to lose. Losing to the undisputed best team in the country will be no disgrace. There is hope. UGA will have to play a perfect game. Go Dawgs.

Man on man Georgia matches up

Man on man Georgia matches up well with LSU. GA's offensive line is comparable to the line Emmit Smith ran behind and protected Troy Aikman at Dallas a number of years ago, and like the rest of the team, the line has improved as the year has moved along. GA's defense is playing as well or better than LSU's at this time. If GA can get the ball into the end zone when they're on LSU's end of the field, they have a shot. If they have to depend on Blair Walsh kicking field goals, they'll be in big trouble (although he may surprise us since he'll be kicking off the GA Dome turf). Regardless, if GA doesn't turn the ball over and plays solid special teams, this game will be very close - probably decided in the closing minutes. If you're a gambler, take GA and the 14 points. There's no way LSU beats GA by that margin.

Based strictly on the results

Based strictly on the results against common opponents, LSU wins 31-15. I wouldn't count on it. Both teams will be ready to play. Both teams win with good athletes, strong fundamentals, disciplined play, and old-fashioned, smash-mouth football. It's not always the case, but with both teams being traditional in style on both sides of the football, the best team will walk away with the victory. By about 7:30 tonight, we'll know for sure whether GA belongs in the top five.

Georgia has played its two

Georgia has played its two toughest games at the beginning of the year playing a rather lackluster schedule the rest of the season while managing not to play Alabama, Arkansas or LSU from the Western Division.

Based on schedule results Georgia and LSU do not match up at all, but in the end you play the game. Georgia fans want be that upset with a loss to LSU and a respectable season considering they were seriously wanting their coaches head on a pike after the South Carolina game.

Correct tomcasey. I will be happy if they play competitively but lose. A victory would be REAL sweet, but I'm satisfied with a salvaged season.
