About 200 children caught 722 fish during the derby on Claypit Lakes. About 150 youngsters participated in the shooting spots program on Range 14. Archery, skeet shooting and rifle shooting instructions were given by Fort Gordon Sportsman’s Club members. Fort Gordon Wildlife Resources Branch presented the wildlife exhibit. Georgia Department of Natural Resources Conservation Rangers provided the laser shot program.

Hook and Cook Festival

Oct. 19-20

The 100 percent payback fishing tournament begins at safe light Oct. 20. Entry fee is $50 per boat with an optional $10 for the big fish pot. There are four categories: panfish, bass, striper/hybrid and catfish. The festival will be held at the Jackson Community Center and Pavilion on Main Street. The event is free. Savannah River Bass Tournament

Next: Sunday, season finale. Entry fee is $40 per team or person with 100 percent payback. Includes big fish pot. Five-fish limit. Entry fee is $40 per boat. Register online at tcbassclub.org. Entry deadline is Oct. 13. A mandatory pre-tournament meeting will be held Oct. 19 at Lighthouse Baptist Church at 7 p.m., and a meal will be served and there will be a special guest speaker.
