JULY 15: Phinizy Swamp Nature Park comes alive by the light of the full moon. Join Academy staff from 9 to 11 p.m. in search of animals such as owls, frogs, beavers and bats by nature's brightest night light. The hike lasts two hours and could cover up to 2.5 miles. Cost is $6 for Academy members, $10 for nonmembers. Early registration is required. For more information, call (706) 828-2109.

JULY 16: A South Carolina concealed weapons permit class will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Carolina Star Gun and Hunt Club, Windsor, S.C. This class meets the South Carolina requirements for training prior to application for a CWP. A Certificate of Training will be issued to each student who passes the firing range and written tests. JULY 30: An NRA pistol orientation class will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Carolina Star Gun and Hunt Club, Windsor, S.C. This class is for beginner pistol shooters. The fundamentals of safety, pistol operation and marksmanship will be taught. Cost is $80.
