Two local semi-professional basketball teams will play host to a regional tournament this weekend.

The Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League South Regional Tournament will be held today and Sunday at Paine College’s HEAL Complex.

The HEAL Complex houses the Georgia-Lina Lady Hurricanes and Atlanta Lady Tarheels, both of which have concluded their regular seasons.

The Hurricanes finished 4-7 and the Tarheels are 6-5.

The Southern Region has been dominated by the Auburn Flyers, who enter the tournament 11-0. The South Carolina Storm round out the region at 1-7.

The Tarheels and Hurricanes will face off at 3 p.m. today, while the Flyers and Storm will play at 5. The two winners will play Sunday at 4 p.m. for the regional title.

The winner of the regional will go to the national tournament set for Aug. 2-4 in St. Louis.

“(The Tarheels and Hurricanes) have high-powered offenses and play great defense,” Tarheels coach Bryan Beaver said. “Overall, I expect a great game. When it comes to the two teams, they’re going to give it all they can.”

Admission for the tournament is $7 for adults, $5 for military and college and high school students, and $4 for children. Kids 5-under get in free.
