Trio claim state track titles

In Jefferson, Ga., three area athletes and a relay team won state championships on Saturday in the  GHSA state meet for boys track and field.

Grovetown’s Darius Watkins won a state championship in the 200 meter dash for Class AAAAA. He also came in third in the 100 meter dash.

Washington County's Quintavious Poole won a state title at the 400 meter dash for Class AAA.

Jenkins County’s Dezmond Moran won a state crown at 110 meter hurdles in Class A public and came in fifth at the 300 meter hurdles.

Cross Creek, with Christian Santiago, Trey Mixon, Lee Hamrick and Devon Diamond, won the state title in the 4x400 meter relay for Class AAAA.

Greenbrier placed second in Class AAAAA in the 100 meter dash and fourth in the 200 meter dash.

Thomson’s Jordan Davis finished second in the 110 meter hurdles in Class AAA.

Warren Coombs of Greenbrier finished second in the 400 meter dash in Class AAAAA.

Jeremy Harden of Greenbrier placed second in Class AAAAA in the 100 meter dash and fourth in the 200 meter dash.

Greenbrier came in second in the 4x100 meter relay for Class AAAAA with Jamal Richard, Warren Coombs, Dontae Weaver and Jeremy Harden.

Jenkins County finished fourth in Class A public for the 4x100 meter relay with Ricky Dawson, Willie Emory, Dezmond Moran and Zavondric Shingleton.

Swainsboro’s Rico Johnson came in fourth in Class AAA for the 100 meter dash. He also finished fifth in the 200 meter dash.

Thomson placed fifth in the 4x100 meter relay for Class AAA with T.J. Tankersly, Chris Tutt, Torrie Battle and William Bussey.
