Dogwood horse set for Risen Star

Palace Malice, a Kentucky Derby hopeful out of Aiken’s Dogwood Stable, will run in the $400,000 Risen Star Stakes next week.

The Grade II race will be held Feb. 23 at the Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots in  New Orleans.

Rose Napravnik will be the jockey.

Palace Malice is a son of Curlin out of Palace Rumor, a Royal Anthem mare. Curlin won the Preakness Stakes and Breeders’ Cup Classic in 2007 and was the Horse of the Year in 2007 and 2008.

Palace Malice has a victory – at Saratoga – and two second-place finishes in three career starts. The Risen Star Stakes will be Palace Malice’s first stakes race.

“We think we’ve got a good one, but we’ll find that out pretty quick now,” said Dogwood Stable president Cot Campbell.
