JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — John Isner and Sam Querrey each won their matches on Friday to give the United States a 2-0 lead over Brazil in the first round of the Davis Cup.

Isner, a former Georgia standout, earned a straight-set win over Brazil’s Thiago Alves 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-3.

Isner’s win came two hours after Querrey earned a 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Thomaz Bellucci.

The United States is one win away from advancing. Bob and Mike Bryan, the world’s No. 1 ranked doubles team, will take on Brazil’s Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares today, followed by Sunday’s reverse singles.

SERBIA 2, BELGIUM 0

In Charleroi, Belgium, Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic swept past Oliver Rochus 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 to give Serbia the first-round lead.

Serbia won the opening singles match when Viktor Troicki rallied from two sets down to defeat David Goffin 1-6, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4, 6-4.

ITALY 1, CROATIA 1

In Turin, Italy, Italy tied Croatia after Andreas Seppi beat Ivan Dodig 6-2, 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-4.

In the opening singles on red clay, Croatia’s Marin Cilic rallied past Paolo Lorenzi 6-1, 6-7 (6), 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in 3 hours, 43 minutes.

Italy is looking to win its first World Group series since 1998.

KAZAKHSTAN 2, AUSTRIA 0

In Astana, Kazakhstan, Andrey Golubev and Evgeny Korolev won their singles matches for Kazakhstan.

Golubev beat Andreas Haider-Maurer 7-6 (2), 6-3, 7-6 (5) in the opening match, and Korolev followed up by defeating Jurgen Melzer 7-6 (4), 6-3, 6-2.

FRANCE 2, ISRAEL 0

In Rouen, France, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Richard Gasquet won their opening singles to give France the early advantage.

The eighth-ranked Tsonga defeated Amir Weintraub 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5, and Gasquet followed up with a 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 win against Dudi Sela.

CZECH REPUBLIC 1, SWITZERLAND 1

In Geneva, Tomas Berdych won his match to bring defending champion Czech Republic all square against Switzerland.

Berdych eased to a 6-3, 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-1 victory over Henri Laaksonen.Earlier, Switzer­land’s Stanislas Wawrinka beat Lukas Rosol 6-4, 6-3, 6-4.

ARGENTINA 2, GERMANY 0

In Buenos Aires, Argentina, Carlos Berlocq and Juan Monaco each won their matches for Argentina.

Berlocq defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber in the first singles match when the German retired with a left hamstring injury while leading 5-4 in the fifth set.

Monaco beat Florian Mayer 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.
