In 2008, Fish and her Argonauts teammates lost in double overtime to Seattle Pacific in the NCAA Division II national championship. After missing a year because of injury, Fish recovered to play three more seasons to help get her team one step away from the pinnacle.
Today, No. 2 West Florida (23-1-0) takes on No. 5 UC San Diego (17-2-4) for the women’s national title at 3 p.m. at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans. At noon, No. 11 Lynn (18-3-1) will face No. 12 Saginaw Valley State (18-2-4) for the men’s national championship.
“We’re going to do our thing,” Fish said. “We’re not going to do anything differently. We’re going to go out there and be hungry. We’re going to go at the back line like there’s no other back line.”
West Florida will face a UC San Diego squad that won the California Collegiate Athletic Association title.
“Our conference is so strong to get through,” Tritons coach Brian McManus said. “We were in a situation three weeks ago where if we didn’t win the conference championship there was a chance we would never would’ve made the playoffs.”
In the men’s final, Lynn will face a Saginaw Valley State squad that’s allowed just three goals in the past 11 games. Zach Myers leads the Cardinals with 17 goals.
