The Michigan school scored the first three goals and held on for a 3-1 win over Simon Fraser in the Division II men’s semifinals at Blanchard Woods Park on Thursday.
Zach Walega, Lachlan Savage and Zach Myers all scored goals to lead the Cardinals (18-2-4), who advance to play men at noon Saturday in the national championship.
Carlo Basso scored the lone goal for Simon Fraser (19-2-1), the first – and only – Canadian school to qualify for an NCAA Final Four.
WEST FLORIDA WOMEN 2, ST. ROSE 1 (2OT)
In the women’s semifinals, Chelsea Palmer scored on a penalty kick 33 seconds into double overtime to lift West Florida to a 2-1 win over defending national champion St. Rose.
The Argonauts (23-1) advance to play UC San Diego at 3 p.m. Saturday for the national championship.
The semifinal pitted a pair of defensive stalwarts.
St. Rose (20-3-2) entered allowing five goals the past 13 games. West Florida entered having allowed just three goals in its past 11 games.
The game remained tied until the 77-minute mark. All alone on the right side, Argonauts midfielder Monica Malavassi fired a shot to the top left corner over a leaping Jessica Gerski. St. Rose responded in the 86th minute when Michaela Phillips scored off a La’Quilla Upton assist.
