Kiara Johnson pulled down 10 rebounds for Paine (1-4).

Lakeitha Alston led Charleston Southern (3-1) with 15 points and nine rebounds.

• Two diehard Brigham Young basketball fans printed 6,300 T-shirts to be handed out before the Cougars’ game Saturday with a message for highly ranked Chicago Simeon Career Academy senior forward Jabari Parker, who was expected to be in attendance.

Greg Welch and Tony Brown created shirts that read, “Chicago to Provo” with images of Chicago’s skyline and Provo’s Mount Timpanogos.

Parker, ranked No. 2 in the nation, arrived at BYU for his official visit on Friday and was expected to attend Saturday’s game between the Cougars and Cal State Northridge.

Parker is also considering Duke, Florida, Michigan State and Stanford.

Parker, a former Sports Illustrated cover subject, is expected to commit in December or January.

• The Philadelphia 76ers say Andrew Bynum’s knees “are not the same” as when they traded for him in August, and are not sure when Bynum will be able to play for them – if he plays for them at all.

Two weeks after the team announced they hoped Bynum would be cleared to return to practice on Dec. 10, Sixers general manager Tony DiLeo said Saturday the team no longer has any timeline for Bynum to return.

“Bottom line is Andrew is out indefinitely,” DiLeo said.

Cards’ Freese hits tree, is OK

St. Louis Cardinals third baseman David Freese is OK after crashing his SUV while trying to avoid a deer.

The accident happened Thursday afternoon in the St. Louis suburb of Wildwood.

The 29-year-old, who was the MVP of the 2011 World Series, crashed his black 2011 Range Rover into a tree, missing the deer.

Freese refused medical attention and his SUV was towed from the scene.

Investigators say alcohol was not a factor in the accident.

Cleveland won’t wave white flag

The Cleveland Browns have waved off their white-flag giveaway.

Following days of criticism, the Browns have decided to cancel a promotion to hand out white flags to fans before today’s game against the rival Pittsburgh Steelers. Because white flags symbolize surrender, the giveaway seemed to imply the Browns were giving up against the Steelers, who have won 16 of the past 17 games between the AFC North foes.

Blackhawk calls retweet mistake

Chicago Blackhawks center Dave Bolland has expressed regret for retweeting a post that called for commissioner Gary Bettman’s death, saying it was a mistake.

As the lockout continues to drag on, Bolland on Friday reposted a Twitter entry that read: “can I get a RT for wanting Bettman dead?”

The retweet later was deleted.

“It was a mistake, I never meant to retweet that out,” Bolland told ESPN.com.
